Die Stadtwerke Prenzlau planen, die Nutzung von geothermischer Energie für die Fernwärmeversorgung zu reaktivieren. Im Jahr 2025 wurden für die Umsetzung des Projektes dafür eine Injektionsbohrung ertüchtigt und eine Förderbohrung abgeteuft. Die Anlage wird an zwei Standorten errichtet.
