Im Rahmen der ÖFS sollen im Jahr 2027 Biotoptypenkartierungen auf insgesamt 36 vorgegebenen Stichprobenflächen durchgeführt werden. Die ÖFS ist Teil des Biodiversitätsmonitorings des Landes NRW und wird seit 1997 auf jährlich wechselnden Untersuchungsflächen durch Feldbiolog*innen im Rahmen von Geländekartierungen durchgeführt.
