Das PSW Grimsel 4 nutzt mit zwei Maschinengruppen ohne zusätzlich gefasstes Wasser das vorhandene Potenzial zwischen den beiden bestehenden Speichern Grimsel- und Räterichsbodensee. Auf Grund der kurzen Distanz zwischen den beiden Seen sowie der bereits bestehenden Anlagenteile kann mit dem PSW Grimsel 4 ein wirtschaftlich attraktives Kraftwerk realisiert werden.
